St Denys Station clear up morning 25 January 2014

A special thank you to the 16 volunteers who turned up last Saturday morning to continue with improving St Denys Station in Southampton.

The station car park was cleared of more litter, overgrown vegetation and some graffiti by a mixture of residents, scouts and volunteers from other stations of the Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership.

6 bags of litter were collected (much of it hidden in bushes in many years) while the car park drains were cleared as much as possible and the walkways to the station were cleared of graffiti and overhanging shrubbery. Southampton City Council will be collecting the bagged up rubbish and are now investigating a deep clean of the drains and possible lighting improvements for pedestrians accessing the station from Osborne Road South.

All in all the work has improved facilities for rail users and has already been noticed by visitors. It is likely that a further clear up morning will be organised for Saturday 15 February, but look out for more details.

Well done to all who took part and a big thank you!
